The Pittsburgh Steelers have cut ties with their former Super Bowl-winning running back.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have released running back La’Mical Perine from their practice squad, the team announced Tuesday. Perine was signed by the Steelers after numerous injuries arose in the running back room, but with Cordarrelle Patterson expected to return from his bye week, the team no longer needed Perine on its practice squad. This could signal that Aaron Champklin, who was ruled out before Monday’s game, could return to the team.

Perine signed with the Steelers over the summer and spent the entire training camp and preseason with them. A former draft pick of the New York Jets, Perine spent several years with the Kansas City Chiefs, winning two Super Bowls with the organization.

However, Perine will now have to find a new spot after the Steelers made some adjustments at the running back position. He could always return to a book he was already familiar with, but that remained to be seen.

In addition to removing Perine, the Steelers released cornerback Thomas Graham from the practice squad to open up another spot.
