What more do you want from Kamala Harris? (Part two)

What more do you want from Kamala Harris? (Part two)

Tonight we’re going live stream of Kamala Harris’ big final rally to benefit Bulwark+ members. The show starts at 19:00. If you are a member, here’s how to join us live. If you are not yet a member and would like to join, we would love to have you.

This morning we were informed that Kamala Harris tried to appear on the Joe Rogan show. She proposed a date and was willing to sit with him for an hour.

Rogan balked.

So Rogan demanded that the sitting vice president abandon her campaign in swing states and come see him in Austin, and that she give him – how much? – three hours?

And if she was only ready to give him an hour and he will have to go to her? Well, then he thought it would be better for his audience not to hear anything about her at all.

Sorry, but this is not the same level.

This is just another area in which Kamala Harris has done—or attempted to do—everything that has been asked of her, in the name of connecting with the great and good American people who get their news from a guy who talks about sucking his own dick.

Kamala Harris has a 50/50 chance of winning this election.

But I want to refrain from arguing that if she loses, it will be her fault. That she did something wrong or didn’t do something important.

Because here the most banal fact: No reasonable observer could have asked her to run a better campaign.

Kamala Harris became the presumptive Democratic nominee a hundred days ago. During this time she:

  • United Democratic Party.

  • Reversed Biden’s poll deficit and moved ahead of Trump.

  • Organized a successful convention.

  • Created the political framework for her future administration.

  • Leans toward the center on almost every issue, from domestic energy production to gun reform to immigration.

  • They absolutely stretched Trump in their debates.

  • Performed somewhere between adequately and exceptionally in every media interview.

  • Spent time with several non-traditional media outlets.

  • Almost always gave good speeches in front of huge crowds.

  • Providing heroic aid to Republicans and swing voters by appearing on Fox News and campaigning with Liz Cheney while obviously inviting and welcoming Republican voters into their coalition.

Harris didn’t play perfect baseball – you and I could jot down a few things we can I wish she would have done things differently. Or better. But there is no perfect campaign.

Seriously: This was the most error-free presidential campaign in memory, and yet Harris didn’t play it safe. She combined aggressive strategy with disciplined execution. In terms of campaigns, how do they exist in the real, real world? This is as good as it gets.

That’s why if Harris loses, it would be wrong to say it was her fault. What if she just did (the things I like) or said (the things that matter to me) then she would have defeated Trump.

Because not only did Harris run the best campaign, but Trump campaigned entirely without masks. He told America who he was and what he wanted.

He wants to round up immigrants and put them in camps.

He wants to use the army against local groups he doesn’t like.

He wants to eradicate the “parasites” that are “poisoning the blood” of the country.

He wants to put crazy people like RFK and Elon Musk in charge of large parts of the federal government.

He wants to fire Jack Smith and have his criminal charges dropped.

He wants to force Ukraine to negotiate a ceasefire on terms favorable to Russia.

Trust me: if Trump wins, it won’t be because Kamala Harris gave a bad answer to a question. View.

This will happen because some large percentage of the American public looked at these two candidates and decided that They wanted Trump.

Trying to blame Harris or find an alternative reason why voters didn’t do it. consciously Choosing an authoritarian leader will be an exercise in avoiding reality. It will be an attempt to avoid confronting who and what our country is.

In a sense, the 2024 elections were an attempt to rationalize the situation in order to escape reality.

The scheme was simple: people came up with an explanation for why 47 percent of the country wanted Trump. This rationalization will be refuted. Someone will come up with a new rationale.

  • The only reason people supported Trump was inflation.

  • The only reason people supported Trump was because of high interest rates.

  • The only reason people supported Trump was crime.

  • The only reason people supported Trump was Biden’s age: they were deeply concerned about his mental ability to do the job.

How many times will we have to do this?
