ITV’s Dr Amir Khan says eating one a day ‘protects the brain’

A doctor has urged Britons to include one simple food item in their diet for its many health benefits, including reducing inflammation and helping to maintain a healthy heart.

According to ITV’s Dr Amir Khan, walnuts are full of antioxidants more than any other common nut and contain a range of vitamins and compounds that help reduce DNA damage and lower blood pressure.

The TV doctor said he eats a handful of walnuts every day because they contain omega-3s, which are essential for maintaining heart health.

The doctor spoke about the health benefits of walnuts on social media, where he explained that the body is not able to produce alpha-linolenic acid, a type of omega-3, and therefore must be consumed in food.

Dr Amir Khan said: “Walnuts contain more omega-3 fats than any other nut. get it from your diet.”

He added: “They can help keep your heart healthy, lower your blood pressure and are also essential for human growth and development. Eating walnuts not only fills you up, but also feeds the good bacteria that live in your gut.

“It promotes your gut health and can also help reduce your risk of disease. “Walnuts contain nutrients that may help protect your brain from damaging inflammation and support good brain function as you age.”

“Regular consumption of walnuts consistently reduces bad cholesterol levels. So go ahead and add some walnuts to your diet today.”

The video went viral, receiving thousands of views and causing a flurry of comments. Many viewers professed their love for eating walnuts every day, while others wished they tasted better.

If you want to join the trend, Holland and Barrett are offering a bag of walnuts for just £2.50. A not too expensive way to improve your health.

One viewer shared: “I eat 30g of walnuts every day with 85% dark chocolate. The perfect combination!”

Another raved: “Love watching your videos, so informative!” A third chimed in: “I love walnuts.”

However, not everyone was thrilled, with one person asking: “Why does everything nutritious taste terrible?”
