Amazon’s Huge Update Could Convince You to Ditch Your Kindle and Try Something New

A whole bunch of new Kindle e-readers are arriving in UK stores, and Amazon is already launching its new entry-level model, which will get a colorful Macha green color and a brighter display. December will also see the release of an update to the premium version of Scribe, as well as the launch of the all-new Colorsoft, Amazon’s first e-reader with a color screen, which launches next month.

If you can’t wait that long and want something more powerful than the basic Kindle, there’s good news: the all-new Paperwhite goes on sale later this week. Since the original was released back in 2021, Amazon’s Paperwhite has officially become the best-selling e-reader, and this book viewing device is now even better.

The 2024 update offers more features, with Amazon promising this latest model is its “fastest yet.” This means pages turn 25 percent faster, and page browsing is smoother when navigating to your Kindle library or Amazon store.

It has a larger 7-inch display and the highest contrast ratio of any Kindle, which should improve text quality when reading bestsellers or autobiographies.

Amazon also boasts that it’s the thinnest Paperwhite ever – it still lasts three months on a charge and is completely waterproof, so don’t worry if you like to read a book in the bath.

It comes standard with 16GB of onboard storage, but you can upgrade to the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition with 32GB of onboard storage, optional wireless charging, and auto-adjusting front lighting.

Prices start from £159.99, but this cost can be reduced by 20 per cent if you trade in an old Kindle device and use Amazon’s trade-in scheme.

“Customers continue to love Kindle and are reading on their devices more than ever—sales last year hit a ten-year high, with the majority of purchases coming from first-time Kindle device owners,” said Kevin Keith, vice President of Amazon Devices. “We’re excited to introduce our customers to an all-new Kindle lineup, including our first color Kindle and an updated Kindle Scribe with an even better writing experience and a more powerful laptop with generative AI built in.”
