Wellsville VFD urges first responders to turn off chili heat | News, Sports, Vacancies

WELLSVILLE — Members of the Wellsville Volunteer Fire Department are calling on all local fire departments and first responders to bring the heat.

The Wellsville VFD is hosting a chili cook-off where they encourage all local firefighters, EMTs, paramedics and law enforcement officers to turn up the heat and participate in a chili cook-off to raise funds for Wellsville VFD cadets and equipment. Member first responders will also have the opportunity to raise funds for their departments.

There is no entry fee to participate in the cook-off, but there is a $10 per person fee that includes chili samples and the opportunity to vote for your favorite chili.

The event will also feature a 50/50 raffle and a drawing for firearms provided by Alcatraz.

All participants are required to bring their own chili, table and table decorations. Each participating department can bring their own drinks and desserts for sale, profiting from those who stay in their departments.

The department with the best overall chili-cooking score will be named the chili-cooking champion, receive bragging rights for the year’s best chili, and receive a movable golden ax to keep in their department until the next year’s chili-cooking begins.

There will also be smaller plaques/trophies awarded to those with the hottest chili, funniest table, and best decorated table.

The public-requested picnic is not limited to first responders. Members of the public are also welcome to attend.

The cook-off will take place on November 2nd from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Wellsville Fire Department, 1200 Main St.
