Demand for remote work is high, but companies are turning away from remote work

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Almost anywhere there is internet, many of us can get work done.

Last month we saw the highest number of remote workers since the Department of Labor began tracking them.

Despite this, organizations are beginning to implement strict return-to-office policies.

Amazon is requiring all corporate employees to return to the office five days a week in January.

Career coaching platform Resume Builder recently found that 87% of companies that switched to remote work during the pandemic will return to offices by 2025. Of the 764 companies they surveyed, only 6% have no plans to return employees to the office.

“It can be hard to go back to that traditional model,” said Allison Malafronte, community manager for Collective615.

Collective 615 is a coworking space for women, including remote and hybrid work. It opened at L&L Market in February 2020. It only became more popular as more organizations allowed flexible work hours.

“There are many more ways to be productive and do a great job than just one traditional model,” Malafronte said.

Collective 615 offers a wide variety of memberships. There are packages for those who want full access to the space and all the activities, as well as memberships for people who just need to stop by a few times a month.

The Labor Department began tracking remote workers two years ago. In September, the number of people working outside the office reached 23.7%.

Jenny Zagnoeva, a Nashville real estate agent, works at Collective615 several times a month. She also has the ability to work from the office, home, or on the go.

“I can work a couple of hours in the office, but I can also go to practice or pick up the kids from school, and if anyone has to go to the doctors, we can do that,” Zagnoev said. “Being able to get from point A to point B without feeling like I need to ‘rest’ is really nice.”

Before becoming a real estate agent in 2016, she worked as a teacher.

“When my kids got sick, the school called my husband because I couldn’t just leave. It’s nice to be able to share that responsibility now,” she said.

As for Amazon, the CEO said returning to the office full-time will be necessary, but it’s best for the company’s future.

“…because we are better equipped to innovate, collaborate, and connect enough with each other and our culture to deliver the very best for clients and businesses, we have decided that we are going to go back to working in the office. as we were before COVID. Looking back over the past five years, we still believe the benefits of office collaboration are significant. I explained these benefits previously (February 2023 post), but. To summarize, we have found it easier for our teammates to learn, model, practice, and reinforce our culture; Collaboration, brainstorming and invention become easier and more effective, and teaching and learning from each other becomes more seamless; They are generally better connected to each other. If anything, the last 15 months of being back in the office at least three days a week have bolstered our confidence in the benefits.”

A trip to see some of our neighbors’ best Halloween decorations.

There are only a few days left until Halloween. Americans are expected to spend about $12 billion on candy, costumes and jewelry this year. Over the past few years, it seems like more and more people are going out of their way to decorate their homes. Forrest Sanders had the opportunity to visit several communities in the middle of the state to see some of these Halloween decorations.
