The heat wave continues and rain is expected to break the recent drought later in the week

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – No major cold fronts are in the forecast as above-average heat is expected this week and the chance for much-needed rain that could end the drought.

Monday morning will start out in the 50s to 60s with patchy morning fog. Highs return to the mid-80s under clear skies.

A strong southeasterly wind Tuesday will bring wind, a few more clouds and a 20% chance of a quick shower. Highs will also return to the lows by the mid-80s.

While we’ll still see plenty of sun Wednesday with highs returning to the mid-80s, rain chances will increase slightly as a front approaches from the northwest. A spotted storm is possible.

On Thursday, the same front inches closer and nearly stalls, giving us our best chance of rain in nearly a month, with a chance of about 40%. So, Halloween may bring a few showers, but it shouldn’t be a washout.

Tropics: The National Hurricane Center gives the area in the western Caribbean a 40% chance of developing the event by the end of the week.

It’s not expected to impact the Gulf states, but if you have plans for the Caribbean later in the week and next weekend, you’ll want to pay close attention.
