Erie man wanted in Millcreek for vehicular assault arrested after being chased out of town

An Erie man wanted by Millcreek Township police on assault charges stemming from a late-August road rage incident was arrested late Friday after town police said he led officers on a high-speed chase from Erie to Millcreek.

Michael A. Rogers, 30, was arraigned Saturday on charges including felonies of fleeing police and fleeing to avoid arrest, offenses causing an accident, and several summary traffic violations during the pursuit. . He was also charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment in the Millcreek road rage incident, according to court records.

Erie police charge Rogers with escape following an attempted traffic stop in an incident that began Friday around 5:30 p.m. in the 2100 block of West Eighth Street. The man reportedly spotted Rogers, who he knew was wanted in an assault case in Millcreek, and called Erie police, according to police. When officers spotted a vehicle reportedly driven by Rogers and attempted to stop it near Frontier Park, the vehicle accelerated, Deputy Police Chief Rick Lora said Monday.

What ensued was a chase that moved through parts of the city and along Interstate 79 at speeds of more than 90 mph, Laura said. Rogers’ vehicle exited the interstate at Kearsarge and headed west on Interchange Road, where it struck an SUV on Zuck Road, causing the SUV to hit the police car, Laura said.

Rogers reportedly fled into a wooded area and removed some of his clothing before officers apprehended him. A woman who was with Rogers was also taken into custody, Laura said.

In the Millcreek case for which Rogers was wanted, township police accuse him of assaulting another man in the 2600 block of West 38th Street on Aug. 30. The motorcyclist, who told police Rogers nearly hit him with his vehicle, began chasing Rogers’ vehicle, and when the motorcyclist collided with Rogers, the motorcyclist was struck in the face, knocked to the ground and struck several more times, Millcreek police said Monday.

According to police, the victim suffered a broken nose and fractured facial bones.

Bail was set at $20,000 for each of the two cases in which Rogers was arraigned Saturday. There was no lawyer listed on his criminal record.
