Record warmth possible ahead of Halloween rain

We’re tracking record warmth possible in the last few days of October. Rain is also in the forecast, but that could affect your Halloween plans.

It’s a cool start to our Monday, which saw temperatures drop into the mid-30s in some locations. At the beginning of the working week, short-term frosts are possible in the region. The afternoon will feature an impressive mix of sun and clouds and high temperatures in the low 70s. Our average high for this date is 60° in Indianapolis.

We will be challenging record high temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday. Record highs for this date are 81° and 82°, respectively. With temperatures expected to be more than 20° above average on these dates, we could meet or exceed these numbers. The warm-up is accompanied by a gusty southwest wind. Wind gusts of up to 30 mph are possible Tuesday through Thursday.

Much needed rain is forecast this week. Unfortunately, this happens on Halloween. This could impact your trick-or-treat plans. This system will arrive with rain across the western part of the state Thursday morning. It will spread east before noon. By the time trick-or-treating hits the streets, the rain will be more concentrated in the eastern part of the state, while the west will see dry conditions. Have plans to include raincoats in magicians’ costumes. Many people will need this.

To close out the week, we look to more seasonal levels and drier conditions. We’re in for another spectacular weekend in the mid 60s and 70s!
