A Hilton Hawaiian Village client was shocked to learn a few things about the place after booking. This greatly affected her stay and vacation.

In a viral TikTok video that has been viewed more than 107,300 times, user Lisa and Hank (@handsomehandandmama) explained what happened.

“Hilton Hawaii did not communicate this at time of booking,” read the text superimposed on the clip.

What she found when she arrived was shocking.

Why is this Hilton guest unhappy?

The woman issued a large PSA to everyone planning to stay at the hotel. She said there was an ongoing workers’ strike that had disrupted the hotel’s operations.

“Do not book a stay at Hilton Hawaii!” reads the on-screen text of the video. “There’s a strike happening and it’s chaotic.”

What should have been a relaxing hotel stay left the woman in the middle of a workers’ protest.

“I’m at the Hilton Hawaiian,” the woman continued. “The workers are on strike. Very relaxing.”

As she spoke, the voices of workers could be heard, collectively chanting and shouting.

She recorded workers standing in front of the hotel with signs and shouting messages into a microphone.

“I can’t believe the hotel will let this go on for so long,” she said.

Hilton Hawaiian Village workers go on strike

Today marks 30 days since the start of the strike by workers at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. According to Hawaii Public Radio, 1,800 workers attended the event.

The union representing the workers says they last met with hotel representatives on September 12. The representatives have refused to meet again since the strike began.

Reasons for the strike include demands for higher wages, staffing issues and COVID-era layoffs.

“We want to restore this property to the way it was before, but they won’t let us because they’re not properly staffed,” one protester could be heard saying. “We are fighting for you too.”

Spectators defend workers

In the comments, many expressed support for the workers.

“The fact is that Hilton would rather give back money and stuff than give their overworked employees a pay raise,” one user wrote.

“I would ask for my money back and go home. Don’t make these workers wait for you. They have other things to worry about, like getting their fair share,” another user said.

Others shared stories of businesses mistreating their workers.

“My husband worked faithfully at HHV for over 14 years and was fired for parking at the wrong level on a day they wanted him to come in early for his shift. They don’t care!!” someone else wrote.

@handsomehankandmama Very disappointed, booked what was supposed to be a relaxing holiday in Hawaii and the workers went on strike. It was annoying that the hotel didn’t disclose the information. Hilton has been understaffed since Covid and is treating staff poorly. #hilton #hiltonhawaiianvillage #hawaii #honolulu #hawaiistrike #hiltonstrike #fyp #hawaiian #aloha #waikiki ♬ original sound – Lisa and Hank
