The Knicks could add Matt Ryan and Landry Shamet during the season.

Ryan was the top pick in Saturday’s G League draft to the Westchester Knicks. Shamet finished second, also in Westchester.

Both players have qualities that the Knicks could use, especially as the NBA season unfolds and injury or depth needs arise. Ryan has ties to Westchester, making New York an ideal landing spot. Known for his shooting ability, he is the type of player that every team loves to have in their back pocket.

It’s no secret that the Knicks are looking to improve the space, and Ryan’s ability to make shots could prove invaluable in the right situations.

Then there’s Shamet. Before a shoulder injury derailed his preseason, Shamet was on track to play on the Knicks’ opening night roster. The former Sixer and Sun has bounced around the league but is known for his defense, playmaking and reliable shooting from deep.

The Knicks viewed him as a possible backcourt player who could play multiple positions, something coach Tom Thibodeau favors. If Shamet is healthy, there is no doubt that he will add another layer of depth.

Bottom line: Both Ryan and Shamet fit New York’s needs for versatile shooters and veteran rotation players. It may only be a matter of time before these two appear in the Knicks’ rotation.

Essentially, New York doesn’t have to make any immediate moves, but when they do, Ryan and Shamet should be ready to step in and add some extra firepower.
