Lewis Hamilton replaced by Mercedes F1 team in Mexican Grand Prix practice after crash

Lewis Hamilton will miss first practice this weekend in Mexico and will be replaced by Mercedes 2025 substitute Kimi Antonelli.

Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Hamilton will leave Mercedes at the end of the season and join Ferrari in 2025.

Hamilton will be replaced by 18-year-old Italian star Kimi Antonelli, who crashed during his Formula One debut weekend at Monza last month.

However, Antonelli will get another chance in the Mercedes cockpit – this time replacing Hamilton in place of George Russell – this weekend in Mexico City.

Formula One rules state that teams must provide rookies with two practice opportunities during the season, one in each car.

Hamilton had a memorable weekend at the US Grand Prix in Austin, finishing second in qualifying before crashing out on the second lap.

However, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff insisted Hamilton’s spin on the gravel was not driver error.

asked Sky Sport F1 Of his view of the accident, Wolf said: “100% machine. I don’t think he even insisted at this stage.

“We saw it (in qualifying) with George and maybe it was too strong, but it still suddenly (however) got lost, putting him in the wall. This is the situation today, the wind was blowing and the air was a little dirty.

“We definitely have a problem. I don’t know if yesterday was the same as today. Definitely Lewis Hamilton won’t lose his car this way.”

Hamilton is sixth in the championship with five races remaining. He is a two-time winner of the Hermanos Rodriguez circuit.
