Bega Valley Shire Council is encouraging residents to join a community tree planting event near the East Street seawall in Bega on Saturday 26 October. Interested parties are asked to meet at 10am opposite Millovine Lane for a quick briefing from council staff. The preserve near the East Street Seawall is home to a variety of native plants and wildlife. By focusing on native trees, shrubs and ground covers that grow well in local conditions, the council is helping to create a healthier ecosystem and increased biodiversity. No registration is required, just bring gardening gloves, closed shoes, a hat, sunscreen and water. The event will end by 12.30pm and from 11.30am to 12.30pm there will be a free BBQ, tea and coffee courtesy of the Bega Lions Club.
