Martin Brundle questioned why Max Verstappen escaped punishment when Lando Norris was punished by the stewards.

The former Formula 1 driver, who commentates on races for Sky Sports F1, explained why he believed the stewards in Austin should have held the Dutchman accountable for running Norris off the track.

“In my opinion, if you pass a car on the inside of the corner while remaining under control, not locked out and staying within the track, then you have won the corner and can follow the normal racing line. through the exit,” Brundle wrote in his regular Sky column.

“And it is up to the driver being overtaken to give way, rather than step on the gas pedal and inevitably pass by. George Russell received an unreasonable fine for this in Austin because he had to follow the rules. Just like the others.

“If Russell was penalized for Valtteri Bottas’ miss on goal, shouldn’t Verstappen have been penalized for Norris’ miss in the same corner?

“And here’s another question: given that Norris passed Verstappen on the outside going into Turn 12, when Verstappen came back on the inside, who was actually passing at the apex of the corner, Verstappen or Norris?”
