The Qantas flight was forced to divert midway due to a mechanical problem.

The plane had taken off from Perth and was heading to the mining town of Paraburdoo when it had to make a priority landing at Geraldton on Monday.

“Our flight from Perth to Paraburdah was diverted to Geraldton on Monday evening due to a mechanical issue,” a Qantas spokesman said.

“The plane landed safely and we will transport passengers heading to Paraburda on other flights today.

“We understand this would be a distressing experience for our customers and want to thank them for their patience and understanding.”

As a precaution, emergency services waited for the plane on the runway.
