Nwokike University Lecturer Praises Soludo for Restoring Democratic Structures in Local Government Areas – Heartbeat Of The East

Mayors and Local Government Councilors in Anambra State have been asked to follow Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s development initiatives and strides to ensure that the dividends of democracy are delivered closer to the people.

Speaking in Awka, a lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Dr. Livinus Nwokike said this would accelerate the development of various communities and strengthen a sustainable democratic culture.

He noted that the restoration of democratic governance at the grassroots level is one of Governor Soludo’s greatest achievements and stated that by holding local government elections, the governor implemented the provisions of the 1999 amended constitution that guaranteed the existence of local government in Nigeria and which was the dream of the founding fathers of the Local Government Association of Nigeria.

Dr. Nwokike, a former Councilor at Orumba South Local Government Council, said this would further strengthen the tripartite relationship between the state, local governments and communities in Nigeria, which would bring greater dividends to democracy at the grassroots level and accelerate the overall development of communities. noting that through this relationship, bridges, culverts and drainage systems, electricity, water and other social amenities will be provided at the grassroots level where many people live.

He noted that the governor, by conducting the elections, distinguished himself as one of the governors who inculcated democracy at the grassroots level and created a niche for himself in the anal of democracy in Anambra State and Nigeria.
