Nevis Cooperative Credit Union Limited launches first school enrollment program with Charlestown and Ivor Walters primary schools

The announcement comes as part of NCCU’s recently launched School Outreach and Rewards (SOAR) program to promote community participation and support for public primary schools on the island.

During a recent launch ceremony held in the NCCU conference room, Ms. Julet Chiverton, Manager of Administration, Member Services and Human Resources, explained the main goals of the program. She emphasized that the Adopt-a-School program is an extension of the Credit Union’s long-standing commitment to community care and aims to develop a strong sense of community spirit.

“This program allows us to expand our commitment to the community by focusing on our schools and our future leaders. We are proud to have launched this initiative, starting with Charlestown and Ivor Walters primary schools,” Ms Chiverton said during her speech.

The first cohort, from October 2024 to September 2025, coincided with NCCU’s celebration of International Credit Union Week.

The SOAR initiative will benefit Nevis primary schools in areas such as financial literacy, infrastructure improvements, school improvements and academic competition. Ms Chiverton explained that the initiative will be rolled out to all public primary schools in Nevis over a four-year period, with each school benefiting from it for one full year.

Officials present included NCCU President Mr Chris Liburd, Board Secretary Ms Shemika Maloney, CEO Mr Sydney Newton and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education Ms Zahnela Claxton.
