The annual celebration of pop culture, gaming, anime, comics, science fiction and fantasy, Armageddon Expo returns this weekend, from Friday 25 October 2024 to Monday 28 October at the Auckland Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Billed as the biggest and most exciting show in recent years, the expo features four huge days of celebrity appearances, panel discussions, cosplay competitions, gaming tournaments, merchandise booths and other fan-related activities.

“This will be the biggest event we’ve done in a long time,” says founder William Geradts.

“And with Jason Momoa leading the guest list, we know fans will be out in force to attend the show, meet the stars and celebrate with other fans of their favorite genre,” he said.

Armageddon, which began in 1995, has since grown into New Zealand’s biggest pop culture event, with numerous shows held annually in cities such as Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Tauranga. The Auckland event is the largest and typically attracts tens of thousands of visitors. This is a major gathering for fans to meet celebrities from movies, TV shows and anime, as well as enjoy a huge range of interactive experiences.

First of all, the biggest attraction is the stars! And this time around, the biggest and most powerful warrior in the DC Universe, Jason Momoa, leads the series with a strong contingent of superheroes, as well as fantasy and anime stars.

A dynamic and versatile actor of Hawaiian descent. Jason Momoahas an army of fans who celebrate his roles in the sci-fi series Stargate Atlantis, Game of Thrones and Aquaman, as well as films filmed here including Warchief, Minecraft and Wrecking Crew , which is currently filming in Auckland. He will appear on Saturday for autograph signings and photo ops with fans.

Momoa will be joined at the exhibition by other superheroes from different universes.

Daniel Panabaker American actress who played Layla, a superheroine with nerdy powers in the TV series Skyfall, and Caitlin in The Flash.

Famous South African Stephen John Ward best known for his role as Dracule Mihawk in the Netflix film adaptation of One Piece, the best-selling manga series in history.

Australian actor Brenton Thwaites played leading roles in such films as “Gods of Egypt”, “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales”. Thwaites recently starred as Dick Grayson (Robin) in the HBO Max series Titans and Titans. Joshua Orpin who played Connor Kent (Superboy) in the series – both are present at the event in Auckland.

Grace Curry is an American actress and dancer, best known for her role as Mary Bromfield in the DC Extended Universe film Shazam! She also starred in Annabelle: Creation and the survival thriller The Fall.

kiwi Craig Parker also joins the lineup. Fiji-born New Zealander Parker was 17 when he began working on New Zealand television in the brilliant Gloss, followed by roles in Shortland Street, Xena: Warrior Princess, Young Hercules and Master rings.” Most recently he was the villain in Legend of the Seeker, he portrayed Sawa in Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, Gaius Claudius Glaber in Spartacus, Narcissus in Reign, a thousand-year-old billionaire demon in Enchanted, and a cruel artist in “Charmed.” Good trouble.

Someone who is already familiar with Momoa is the star of Stargate Atlantis. Rachel Luttrellbest known for playing lead actress Teyla Emmagan for five seasons. Rachel also played one of the Jabari warriors in Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, the Arrow series, and a reverse cop in the Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special.

Also from outer space, when she played Lyta Alexander in the Hugo Award-winning sci-fi series Babylon 5. Patricia TallmanHer credits extend far beyond character roles, with the prolific stuntwoman bringing screen presence to the likes of Laura Dern (Jurassic Park), Gates McFadden (Star Trek Generations) and Geena Davis (The Long Kiss Goodnight). .

Martial arts supporter Yvonne Chapman showcased her skills as Kyoshi in Avatar: The Last Airbender and the brutal villain Zhilan in Kung Fu. And from a galaxy far, far away, Lauren Mary Kim appeared in The Mandalorian, as well as Daredevil, Ahok and Ms. Marvel.

Armageddon is also known for its voice actors and animation guests, and many famous names come to Auckland.

Headliners include John Gremillion – who also played Dracule Mihawk in One Piece, but as a voice actor in the popular anime series – as well as other leading roles in series including Food Wars! and My Hero Academia.

Award winning actress/singer, Lenore Zann has performed all over the world, with hundreds of credits in television, film, animation, radio and theatre. Lenore, who received the Duke of Edinburgh’s Golden Lifetime Award for service to her community and country, is best known as the iconic “Rogue” from the X-Men animated series on Disney+.

Voice Actor/Director Caitlin Glass She has been heard in dozens of roles, but most notably as Winry Rockbell in Fullmetal Alchemist. Other roles include Mina Ashido in My Hero Academia and Petra Rall in Attack on Titan.

Prolific voice actor Kari Wahlgren his track record is too long to list, but highlights include recurring character Jessica in Rick and Morty, Harley Quinn in Gotham Nights, and Celty Sturluson in Durarara!!x2.

David McCormack is an Australian musician, singer, songwriter and actor. He is best known for his role as Bandit Heeler in the critically acclaimed Australian animated series Bluey.

Among the comic book creators who attended Armageddon are Stephen B. Jones – known for his performances of “Wonder Woman” and “Big Mouth”, and Jason Keith comic book artist and colorist known for Spider-Man/Deadpool, The Avengers and The Hulk.

Sonic fans are also in for a treat: Armageddon Expo will feature the new Sonic video game, Sonic X Shadow Power, with a huge pavilion dedicated to the game. And Sonic is just one of the gaming franchises on display: Call of Duty Black Ops 6, Astro Bot, Just Dance, TMNT Mutants Unleashed, Diablo IV, Dragon Ball Z Sparking Zero and Act 2 VR Minecraft – some of which will be released for the first time in New Zealand at the exhibition.

Fan experiences are a big part of the exhibition. It features attractions such as a giant animated robot that talks to fans, a massive cosplay parade, an airsoft apocalypse, racing simulators, and K-pop and J-pop performances, just to name a few of the features.

The Armageddon Expo kicks off with a preview on Friday the 25th before the all-stars arrive for a huge weekend of events and entertainment.

Guests can purchase tokens to meet guests and take photos with them, or see them free on one of the stages as they tell stories about their lives, careers and characters.

As always, the show will be all about gaming with demos and competitions throughout the weekend. In addition, there will be hundreds of artisans selling all sorts of goods that will interest fans of every genre.

“Labor weekend is usually our biggest event, but the early signs are that this year will be something special,” says Geradts.

“With an incredible lineup of stars from across genres, fantasy, anime, gaming, comics and cosplay, Armageddon has something for everyone, and the presence of A-lister Jason Momoa is the icing on the cake.
