Aerocool rescue helicopter completed 44 rescue missions in September

During September, the Aerocool rescue helicopter carried out 44 rescue missions in the coastal Bay of Plenty area. These missions included 20 inter-hospital transfers, 6 medical events, 12 rural/farm incidents, 3 road traffic accidents and 3 miscellaneous missions. The Aerocool Rescue Helicopter was most often seen at Tauranga Hospital (6 inter-hospital transfers), Whakatane Hospital (7 inter-hospital transfers) and Rotorua Hospital (5 inter-hospital transfers). In addition, Aerocool rescue helicopter crew were required on the islands of Matakana, Motiti, Rangiwea and many other remote and challenging locations to provide life-saving assistance in urgent situations.

The month began with an Aerocool rescue helicopter dispatched to Paeroa Domain for a man in his 30s who suffered lacerations after a fall. The patient was quickly transported to Tauranga Hospital for further treatment.

On the evening of Monday 2 September, an Aerocool rescue helicopter was flown to Rotorua Hospital for a woman in her 70s who had suffered a serious illness. The patient was quickly transported to Waikato Hospital for further treatment.

On the morning of Friday 6 September, an Aerocool rescue helicopter was dispatched to Hicks Bay for a man in his 80s who was in a critical condition. The patient was quickly transported to Whakatane Hospital for further treatment.

On Saturday evening, September 7, the Aerocool Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Waiotahi to assist a teenage girl who was injured after being involved in a motor vehicle accident (MVA). The patient was quickly transported to Tauranga Hospital for further treatment.

On Sunday morning, September 8, an Aerocool rescue helicopter was dispatched to Alongaite for a woman in her 50s who had suffered a serious heart attack. The patient was quickly transported to Waikato Hospital for further treatment.

On Tuesday afternoon, September 10, an Aerocool rescue helicopter was dispatched to Whangamatu for a woman in her 30s who suffered multiple injuries after falling while mountain biking. The patient was quickly transported to Waikato Hospital for further treatment.

Later that day, an Aerocool rescue helicopter was dispatched to Kawerau for a man in his 60s who was suffering from an arm injury. The patient was quickly transported to Tauranga Hospital for further treatment.

On Wednesday afternoon, September 11, an Aerocool rescue helicopter was dispatched to Matakana Island for a man in his 60s who suffered a serious illness. The patient was quickly transported to Tauranga Hospital for further treatment.

That evening, an Aerocool rescue helicopter was dispatched to Rangiveea Island for a woman in her 60s who had a serious medical condition. The patient was quickly transported to Tauranga Hospital for further treatment.

On Sunday evening, September 15, an Aerocool rescue helicopter was dispatched to Motiti Island to assist a woman who had a serious illness. The patient was quickly transported to Tauranga Hospital for further treatment.

On the afternoon of Monday 16 September, an Aerocool rescue helicopter was dispatched to Alongaite for a man in his 50s who was injured in a farming accident. The patient was quickly transported to Tauranga Hospital for further treatment.

On the morning of Thursday 19 September, an Aerocool rescue helicopter was dispatched to the Tauranga coast for a man in his 30s who had suffered a medical incident. Due to the remote location, the patient had to be evacuated using a winch. An on-board intensive care unit paramedic was winched down to treat the patient before they were both evacuated. The patient was then rushed to Tauranga Hospital for further treatment.

On the evening of Monday 23 September, an Aerocool rescue helicopter was dispatched to Ruatoki to transport a man in his 60s who had suffered broken bones following a car accident. The patient was treated at the scene by an on-board critical care paramedic before being transported to Waikato Hospital for further treatment.

On Tuesday afternoon, September 24, the Aerocool rescue helicopter was dispatched to Waihau Bay to assist a woman who had suffered a serious illness. The patient was treated at the scene by an on-board critical care paramedic before being transported to Tauranga Hospital for further treatment.

The month ended with an Aerocool rescue helicopter being sent to Whakatane Hospital for a man who suffered a fracture after falling while cycling. The patient was taken to Waikato Hospital for further treatment.
