Police training at Burnside High School will include the use of explosives and firearms

Police will hold a training exercise at Burnside High School in Greers Road, Christchurch, from Wednesday to Friday (October 23-25).

The exercise will take place from 3pm to 8pm every day and there will be an increased police presence in the area.

Explosives and firearms will be used during the exercise, and residents may hear loud explosions coming from the area. To alert the public, an audible alarm will sound before each loud bang. The activities will take place in a fenced demolition area with visible police drill signs in place.

Authorities assured the public that there was no cause for concern as this was a routine exercise.

Police stressed the importance of such training to ensure officers are well prepared to keep the public safe.

Residents with any questions or concerns are advised to contact the police on 105.
