Ford to cut another 4,000 jobs in Europe

US automaker Ford Motor has announced plans to cut a further 4,000 jobs, mainly in Germany and the UK, amid falling demand for electric vehicles in Europe.

Ford said on Wednesday that the workforce cuts would occur by the end of 2027, adding that it would consult with governments, unions and other social partners.

The American publication Bloomberg reports that job cuts will amount to 14 percent of the automaker’s European workforce.

The announcement follows an earlier plan to cut 3,800 jobs in Europe that Ford unveiled in February last year.

In a statement, Ford said: “What we lack in Europe and Germany is a clear and clear policy agenda for e-mobility.”

He called for government investment in charging infrastructure and consumer incentives.

German automaker Volkswagen is also considering plant closures and job cuts at home amid increased competition from Chinese electric vehicle makers.
