This collaboration marks another milestone in the over two decades of partnership between the telecom giant and the global network solutions provider as they work together to shape India’s digital future. Nokia has already entered into a three-year contract with Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) to supply advanced 4G and 5G equipment, marking a major step in upgrading and expanding VIL’s network infrastructure.

Gopal Vittal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Bharti Airtel said, “Airtel is a pioneer in network innovation, consistently pushing the boundaries of delivering cutting-edge connectivity solutions. This strategic partnership with Nokia will future-proof our network infrastructure and provide customers with an unparalleled user experience, as well as a network that is green and minimizes environmental impact.”

Pekka Lundmark, President and CEO, Nokia, said: “This strategic agreement further strengthens our long-standing partnership with Airtel and our presence in India. Our industry-leading AirScale portfolio and AI-powered services will improve the energy efficiency of Airtel’s network, delivering premium 5G capacity and connectivity with the highest quality of experience for subscribers.”

As part of this deal, Nokia will provide AirScale’s advanced portfolio, which includes base stations and baseband modules, as well as Massive MIMO radios. All of these components feature Nokia’s energy-efficient ReefShark technology, which ensures optimal performance with minimal environmental impact.

Additionally, Nokia will upgrade Airtel’s current 4G infrastructure with multi-band radios and baseband equipment capable of supporting 5G. This strategy not only expands the existing network but also allows for seamless scaling to meet future needs.

Nokia will also integrate its MantaRay network management system, an AI-powered solution for network monitoring, management and optimization. This tool will enable Airtel to deliver enhanced network capacity and coverage, exceptional 5G performance for users and efficient use of energy in line with sustainability goals.

As part of Nokia’s Green 5G initiative, the deal places a special emphasis on energy-efficient technologies. The move underscores Airtel’s commitment to reduce its environmental impact while providing faster and more reliable connectivity to its customers.

This partnership will enable Airtel to meet India’s rapidly growing demand for high-speed Internet and next-generation digital services. By expanding 4G capabilities and deploying robust 5G infrastructure, Airtel aims to support industries, enterprises and individuals in their journey to a more connected and digital lifestyle.
