The snow gave rescuers their first chance to catch their breath in months

BISMARCK, N.D. (KYR) – First responders finally have a chance to catch their breath after a stressful few months.

Hunter Noor with the North Dakota Forest Service said the snow is bringing much-needed moisture to dry areas of the state. He said first responders and volunteers who have been working to put out fires since October are hoping the snow continues because it could mean the end of a historic wildfire season.

“I wish I could say we’re done, but having said that, I’m knocking on wood because you never know what Mother Nature is going to throw at you. So December – temperatures could get back into the 40s or 50s, we could get another wind and see more fires – but looking at the forecast, looking at what they’re predicting, it looks like we’re going to slide into the winter season, hopefully pretty calm,” Noor said.

He said the increased rainfall should help prevent any potential fires.
