Brisbane News LIVE updates: Miles and Crisafulli face off in third debate | Teenager accused of murder tried to stop stabbing, judge says

A teenager accused of killing a woman during a home invasion is trying to stop his group from making death threats, a judge has heard.

Emma Lovell, 41, was stabbed to death on the lawn of her home in North Lakes, north of Brisbane, after midnight on December 27, 2022, during a home invasion allegedly carried out by two 17-year-old boys.

One of the young men this week pleaded not guilty to murder at the start of his trial in the Supreme Court in Brisbane.

The youth also pleaded not guilty to armed burglary and malicious mischief and assault occasioning actual bodily harm against Ms Lovell Lee’s husband.

Defense lawyer Laura Rees told Judge Michael Copley on Tuesday that her client could be heard on audio from a neighbour’s CCTV camera saying “f***ing no” in response to another teenager telling the Lovells: “I’ll kill you”.

“My client said, ‘Stop, stop, stop,’ which is consistent with the video of him running toward (the other teen),” Reece said.

The audio was recorded on the Lovells’ front lawn after they woke up to find two intruders in the house and pushed them outside.

During the confrontation, Ms. Lovell was fatally shot in the heart, and Mr. Lovell was stabbed in the back and kicked as he lay on the ground.

Another teenager charged in Ms Lovell’s death pleaded guilty to her murder in March and was sentenced to 14 years in prison in May.

The prosecution wrapped up its case Tuesday, and the teenage defendant did not call witnesses in his defense or testify at his trial.
