Many iPhone users may be losing patience after Apple announced its new AI features almost two months ago, but they are still not here.

Fear not: the wait is almost over and big changes are coming with the advent of new technologies. latest update iOS 18.1.

People will be able to easily clean up photos, redraw messages, summarize long text and talk to Siri “more naturally” without having to download third-party apps.

Apple hasn’t revealed exactly when the update will hit our phones, but they did say it will be in October, and the clock is ticking with just nine days left.

The company plans to integrate artificial intelligence into the overall phone experience, adding some features that are already available from competitors, such as editing background clutter in photos and redrawing messages, as well as others that it says are innovative, such as the level of privacy it offers and security. .

However, if you want to use Apple Intelligence on your phone this month, there are some conditions.

To view this video, please enable JavaScript and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video.

Firstly, it will only work with fairly advanced hardware, that is, iPhone 16 or iPhone 15 Pro models that have an A17 processor chip. For the iPad, the starting point is the M1 chip, which will be available on Pro models from 2021 or iPad Air from 2022.

This means that if you have an iPhone 14 or earlier, or even an iPhone 15 but basic rather than pro, you’re out of luck, at least not with the full AI feature set. Some of them will probably still be available, but we don’t know all the details yet.

The second condition is that AI features will not yet be automatically available in the UK. You will have to take the initiative.

How to get Apple Intelligence in the UK this month?

The US English beta version is due out in October, with the UK English version coming in December.

Apple said those who already want to try it will still be able to access the US version.

To install it on your phone, first download iOS 18.1 when it’s released, and then set the phone’s language, as well as Siri’s language, to English (US).

Apple Intelligence will be available in beta in iOS 18.1 in October, when your device language and Siri language are set to a supported language.

Then, to request activation of Apple Intelligence:

  • Go to settings
  • Click Apple Intelligence and Siri.
  • Then click “Join the Apple Intelligence Waitlist.”
  • You’ll receive a notification as soon as it’s ready to activate on your iPhone (presumably within a few hours of joining).
  • Apple Intelligence models installed on your device will begin downloading once activated and can then be used.

What new features will be available?

Apple said the first set of artificial intelligence features that will be available in iOS 18.1 this month include:

  • Writing Tools to Help You Write Better
  • Clean Up lets you edit your photos
  • Create a Memories Movie in Photos
  • Natural language search in photos
  • Notification Summary
  • Reduce attention to distractions
  • Intellectual breakthrough and silencing in focus
  • Priority messages in Mail
  • Smart reply in mail and messages
  • Summaries in mail and messages
  • Improvements to Siri, including product knowledge, more flexible query processing, a new look, a more natural voice, the ability to type with Siri, and more.

The new iOS also includes the ability to record phone calls (a feature that is currently blocked) as well as transcribe content.

Apple’s September launch announcement says the technology will help you change the tone of a message you write if you need it to sound “more professional” – and, best of all, it will create custom new emoji based on suggestions you provide.

Chat GPT will be used to help users with their copy, whether it’s making an email sound more professional or adding “humor and creativity to a party invitation.”

Proofreading spelling and grammar will be easier, and users will also be able to easily summarize text in bullet points or shorter paragraphs by highlighting it.

In the Image Playground app, users will be able to “create new images using suggestions and create a completely new image based on a description, suggested concepts, or even someone in your photo library,” along with the ability to change the style. for different concepts.

Apple has promised that your data will be kept safe as long as it is “never stored” and “only used for your queries” via private cloud computing, rather than, for example, being used to further train AI.

Apple Intelligence features will not work in the EU or mainland China at this time.
