Wetzel County Board of Education votes to approve school consolidation

NEW MARTINSVILLE, W.Va. (WTAP) – Two Wetzel County high schools will close at the end of this school year and will be consolidated with other schools in the district.

The Wetzel County Board of Education held a special meeting this morning to consider proposals to close Paden City High School and Hundred High School and consolidate them into other schools in the district at the end of the 2024-2025 school year.

Paden City High School will be consolidated into Mangolia and New Martinsville high schools, and Hundred High School will be consolidated into Valley High School.

Jimmy Glasscock was the only board member to vote against both proposals.

The board’s vote followed public hearings at the affected schools.
