“He acknowledges that he has faced some personal challenges and has taken the proactive step of seeking immediate professional help following these recent events.

“We will continue to support him throughout this process and will not be making any further comment at this time.”

“I wouldn’t want to see another good friend and footballer go down the path of suicide.”

Mam’s situation is the first major test of new manager Michael Maguire’s leadership.

Thaiday admits Maguire has an important job ahead of him at Red Hill.

“I think he’s coming into a system where he’s going to have to make a lot of changes. Changes both on and off the field,” Thaiday said.

“Now he’s going to have to come in and set some standards. He also has a difficult decision to make and he doesn’t want to be left behind in the search for another midfielder at this stage of the season.”

“I hope he gives Ezra as much time as possible to go through the rehabilitation process and come to his senses.”

Speaking to 4BC radio, Broncos chief executive Dave Donaghy could not guarantee what Mam’s future at the club would look like.

“We haven’t had an in-depth internal discussion, but we don’t have the full facts,” Donaghy said.

“It would be remiss of me to get too far ahead of myself.

“Obviously there is a process that needs to be followed with the police and on the issues mentioned, but when all the facts are known and the emotions are removed… He is a truly decent young man who seems to have lost his way of communicating. late, so these may be the pitfalls of this industry.

“In a conversation with Ezra, he apologized for putting the club in this position and, of course, he is concerned about the fate of others involved in this accident.”
