BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – It’s not the color change we wanted, but October saw a huge shift from the lush green landscape we’ve been enjoying all summer to the crisp, crunchy beiges and browns that are most popular. notable on daily trips up and down Highway 6.

Grass fires have been raging along this same stretch of highway for months now, with no real relief in sight for this scorched landscape.

September 25 was the last time rain was recorded at Easterwood Field. Just over half an inch of rain had fallen the day before, making it the wettest day we’d seen since mid-summer.

Before we even turned the page to October, there was already a drought. But with ten days left in the month, can we count the rain and keep October 2024 out of the record books?

All it really takes is one good thunderstorm to knock us out of the top five driest Octobers. Signals are starting to show that NEXT week could be our chance to get a couple of good soaks.

According to the Climate Prediction Center, much of the Lower 48 region is expecting a “pattern change,” or a transition from the dominant high pressure we’ve been seeing to a couple of different troughs of low pressure that will sweep the U.S. sometime around Halloween.

With at least lower levels of humidity increasing this week, we’ll try to get all the ingredients for rain before the end of the month.

WHEN exactly will we see this rain? It’s too early to tell and, at least as of this writing, too early to worry. However, this is the most optimistic rain forecast I’ve personally experienced all month. We will, of course, give you the first warning, especially with plans for Halloween next week.
