Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo reveal their “evil” characters

Anything Wicked this way comes.

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo paid tribute to their characters last night at Wicked Premiere in Sydney, Australia. The duo respectively play Glinda and Elphaba in Jon M. Chu’s upcoming film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical and, accordingly, bring their on-screen personas to life in intricate costume-level dresses.

For the occasion, Grande wore a pink Vivienne Westwood Couture ballgown, a design not unlike what the actor wears as Glinda in the film. Layers of pink and peach tulle created a voluminous skirt, and the dress’s corseted bodice was adorned with pink rhinestone stars (common in Westwood’s collections since 2010). Puffy, sheer sleeves completed the fairy-tale silhouette, reaching down to Grande’s wrists.

The pop star continued the whimsical theme by accessorizing with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, including a diamond-encrusted butterfly necklace and matching ring. Diamond earrings gave her a full circle look, and she styled her blonde hair in a half-up, half-down style, leaving a strand hanging down one side of her face. Her subtle glam featured dusty pink eyeshadow and a glossy pink lip.

Erivo, for her part, leaned into her character Elphaba’s witchy look with an equally dramatic look. She wore a strapless black Louis Vuitton dress, making sure to highlight the sculpted silhouette of the dress. A massive bow at the back of the dress added grace to the look, and the pointed ends of the pattern emphasized the hips. The full skirt of the dress contrasted with the corseted bodice, which was highlighted by a minimalist square neckline with a small cutout.

A thick black necklace adorned with a large diamond pendant completed Erivo’s look. She accessorized with shimmering green sunglasses, silver hoops and several silver diamond rings. While she kept her glamorous look natural, she flaunted a gorgeous green manicure that reflected her personality. As she posed with Grande on the “yellow brick road” carpet, the two shared a tender hug, proving their friendship extends off-screen as well.
