US fire departments arrive at a Nigerian woman’s apartment after her Jollof Rice smoke detector went off.

A Nigerian woman in the United States, Fola, caused a stir in her neighborhood after the rice she cooked set off the smoke detector in her room.

Recounting the incident on TikTok, Fola said she was scared when the detector went off and tried unsuccessfully to turn it off.

Fola also said the noise from the detector was so loud that her neighbors came out to see if everything was okay.

Eventually, the US Fire Department showed up less than five minutes after the smoke detector went off. Fola wrote:

“Omo! When the smoke detector went off in my room, I was scared! I tried turning it off but couldn’t. The noise was so loud that neighbors came out of their room to check if everything was okay. Firefighters were immediately alerted to the explosion and were on their way.”

She shared a short video showing US Fire Department personnel in her apartment. The words superimposed on her clip read:

“You were cooking rice for a week in the US and the smoke detector went off. Unbeknownst to you, the fire department was notified as soon as the detector went off and arrived at your apartment in less than 5 minutes.”

Man rescued by Kano Fire Department

Meanwhile, legit.ng It was earlier reported that the Kano State Fire Service rescued the man.

The man, identified simply as Saifullah Rabiu, was rescued by firefighters as he was about to hang himself from a tree. According to Daily Trust, the man in question wrote a suicide note in which he stated that his actions were due to a debt of N2 million while obtaining a foreign visa.

In response, state fire service spokesman Saminu Abdullahi confirmed the information to reporters in a statement. Abdullahi noted that Rabiu recounted in his suicide note how the lender’s embarrassment made him contemplate suicide.
