Chloë Grace Moretz has come out as gay, sharing her support for the 2024 election.

The Miseducation of Cameron Post star, 27, said she identifies as a gay woman in an Instagram post on Friday urging fans to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential election.

“I believe that the government has no right to my body as a woman and that decisions regarding my body should come ONLY from me and my doctor,” Moretz wrote. “Kamala Harris will defend this for us. I believe in the need for legal protections that will protect the LGBTQ+ community as gay women. We need protection in this country and to have access to the health care we need and deserve.”

Moretz, who said she voted early for Harris, also wrote that “there is so much at stake in this election” and urged her more than 24 million followers to “make a plan to get to the polls with your friends.”

Moretz has been linked to model Kate Harrison since 2018. The actress previously starred in The Miseducation of Cameron Post as a teenager sent to gay conversion therapy.

In a 2018 interview with the BBC, the Kick-Ass star noted that she grew up in a “very Christian Baptist town” in Georgia with her two gay brothers, who “faced a lot of self-hatred” when they came out. .

“They tried, which is very common in the community we grew up in, to do the gay justice themselves before coming out to their family, which I didn’t realize was happening at the time,” she shared.

Moretz told Net-a-Porter that her brothers were “really excited” about her role as a gay teen in Cameron Post, adding: “There were a few people in our little town who had apparently prayed the gay away and now have they have a good relationship. with their wives, the film hit pretty close to home for a number of reasons.”

Speaking at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, Moretz also said she consulted with gay conversion therapy survivors to prepare for her role in the film.

“They were so open with us,” she said at the time. “Thank you for telling us your story and really teaching us about the darkness. And also (shared) moments of meeting other gay kids like you when you first realize you’re not alone. “
