Cade Cunningham is confident the Detroit Pistons can bounce back after slow start

After picking up their first win of the season on Wednesday, the Detroit Pistons were expected to return to their home court Friday to try to gain some momentum. Unfortunately for them, things didn’t turn out that way. Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks got off to a strong start early and never looked back.

In the end, the Pistons ended up on the wrong end with a 128-98 score. The loss dropped them to 1–5 on the year, their worst record in the Eastern Conference. Despite the way things stand at the moment, one of the team’s key players is confident they can turn the tide.

After Friday’s loss, Cade Cunningham was asked about how the group handled early season adversity with a 1-5 start. He liked what he saw from his teammates and remains optimistic about their abilities in the coming months.

“We were firm. It’s still early” Cunningham said. “I still feel very positive about this group, about this season. We had a rough start, but we have a lot of basketball to play. Like I said, we have two games to answer.”

Cunningham started the season well and continued his impressive performance against the Knicks. In 32 minutes of play, he scored 22 points, six rebounds and six assists. It was a productive night for the Pistons star as he shot 52.6% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc. However, his strong play was not enough to keep Detroit within striking distance of the Knicks.

Looking ahead, the Pistons will return to action on Sunday to beat the Brooklyn Nets. This will be the first night of a back-to-back as they face LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday.
