Strictly Come Dancing fans are wondering whether Wynne Evans broke the rules of the competition.

The 52-year-old opera singer is best known for his role as Gio Compario in the Go Compare insurance commercial, in which he first appeared in 2009.

He has also released two number one classic music albums, hosts a program on BBC Radio Wales and won Celebrity MasterChef last year.

Wynne is also currently on Strictly, where he is paired with Katya Jones.

On this week’s show, which was a special Icon-themed episode, the pair performed a rumba to Shirley Bassey’s This Is My Life.

Before hitting the dance floor, Wynn said the song “got into my heart.”

At the end of the emotional performance, the singer changed bands and sang the final line, earning a standing ovation from the audience.

Speaking to him immediately afterwards, presenter Tess Daly exclaimed: “You blew the hair off my arms.” It was something. We know Wynn can sing, but what do you think of that rumba?

In response to this question, Anton Du Beke said that it was “the best ending to any act I have ever seen in my entire life.”

“It was incredible. I liked it,” he added.

However, some watching at home were less impressed.

“For the second week in a row, Katya danced around a barely moving Vinna… and singing is not dancing,” Vicky wrote on X.

“Winn wasn’t required to sing over and over again at the DANCE competition,” S shared.

“I wish it was a singing competition. How fair is it that Wynn gets to sing at the end?? I always give him new rules and special treatment,” added Katie.

Others said his singing “didn’t seem fair.”

After receiving feedback from the judges, Shirley advised him to watch his “spatial awareness.”

“Also, I want you to keep up the good work because your technique is amazing and it’s moving nicely in the right direction. Continue,” she added.

Although Craig Revel Horwood had some criticism, he said that he “loves the song and loves you”.

Before receiving the results, Wynn joked, “Can we just pretend it’s a singing competition.”

He then received an overall score of 30.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Sunday at 7.20pm on BBC One.
