A staff member at King’s College Auckland resigned and left campus today amid allegations of inappropriate online activity with someone he believed to be a minor.

The school warned parents this evening that the matter had been reported to police through an emailed statement from headteacher Simon Lamb and school board of governors chairman Shan Wilson.

The statement, entitled “Important message to parents and guardians of King’s College”, said the male staff member “admitted that he was involved in inappropriate online activity when he was under the impression that he was communicating with a minor.”

In a joint statement, Lamb and Wilson said they were not aware that any King’s College student was involved in the online activity and this was the first time concerns about his behavior had been brought to their attention.
