Guru Gluyasa is set for the Victoria Derby

Trainer Andrew Gluyas has confirmed Hill Smith Stakes winner Goldrush Guru will now contest the Group 1 Victorian Derby at Flemington.

“He deserves the opportunity to go there after his dominant win at the weekend,” Gluyas said.

“There was a lot of good stuff in his win at Hill Smith, he settled in well, raced very cooperatively and rode them out with a lot of authority when Jason (Holder) got him ready.”

As for the Derby driver, Gluyas does not yet have a clear agreement with the son of American Pharoah.

“We’re already getting inquiries from some talented people, so I’m confident we’ll get this resolved sooner rather than later,” he said.

For Gluyas on Saturday it was back-to-back wins in the Hill Smith Stakes after winning last year’s Air Assault.

Air Assault also ran in the Victoria Derby but finished 13th behind Riff Rocket.

Gluyas was in Melbourne last Saturday with son Justify, who finished 10th in the G3 Moonga Stakes won by Mighty Ulysses.

“He had a busy build up to Air Assault and obviously his Balaklava Cup win was outstanding,” Gluyas said.

“His plan now is to return home and run the listed John Letts Cup at Morphettville over 1800m on Melbourne Cup Day.

“As we get back to class and head out on the road, we’ll be hoping for a good result.”
