SFA Lumberjacks bounce back against Houston Christian; ready to fight with preseason favorite Nicholls

NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) – The SFA Lumberjacks got back in the win column against Houston Christian on Saturday night with a score of 55-6.

Junior quarterback Sam Widlak again threw for over 300 yards and five touchdowns, including a 96-yard pass to Jordan Nabors.

But it was a run attack that totaled more than 230 yards that day that provided a brutal finish for the Huskies.

“When you can move your sticks and control the football, there’s nothing worse,” head coach Colby Kartel said. “…I was an old D.C. player, and there’s nothing more demoralizing than when the ball just goes down your throat.”

“I love throwing the ball,” Widlak said. “…but in the running game you can bring a different mentality and I think you can send a message to the other team…”

But for the Cartel it is difficult to have one without the other.

“They complement each other…” Kartel said. “…you know, you hear complimentary football… …and that’s true, but on offense, if you don’t have a running game, you’re going to have a hard time throwing it.”

The Jacks will be hoping to continue their offensive prowess on Saturday evening as they begin their away game against Nicholls with kick-off set for 3pm.
