Shawsheen Tech closes in on pro title – Lowell Sun

The Shawsheen Institute of Technology women’s volleyball team is still going strong.

The Rams captured their first state pro tournament title Monday, defeating the Norfolk Aggies 3-0 by scores of 25-8, 25-19 and 25-16. The win brings the team’s record to 22-0 heading into the state tournament later this week.

Leading the way in the win were junior captain Francesca Reardon with a season-high 20 kills, junior setter Maura Kruger with 26 assists and senior captain Meaghan O’Leary with three aces and seven service points. Senior captain Fiona Rexford added 14 serves, including five aces, and Isabella DiSalvo had 19 serve receptions.

Boys football

gr. Lowell 0, c. Lawrence 0: The Griffins held off the top-ranked Reggies to a scoreless draw. Greater Lowell is now 9-3-4 overall.

Goalkeeper Brian Borges made 12 saves to record the shutout, while Alejandro Cano Gil, Gio De Oliveira, Marcos De Oliveira, JP Monteiro and Jonathan Garcia played well in front of him.

Shawsheen 3, Drakut 0: Senior Jack Bourque scored all three goals to lead the Rams to the non-league victory. He assisted Davide Vitale’s first goal and then scored the final two goals.

Niko Georgoulis had two assists. Senior goalie Caleb Molina earned his fifth goal of the season, and seniors Lane Couto, Chavoun Duhamel and Jason Dube played well in front of him.

Lowell 2, Westford 0: Jack Bussey made eight saves in Westford Academy’s loss as Lowell finished the regular season 18-0.

Children’s football

Nashoba 4, Trivium 0: Goalkeeper Audra DiCicco had her fourth straight goal, making several stunning saves as the Vikings won at Westford and ended the regular season on a high note.

The goals were scored by Sydney Rokita, Destani Soba, Abby Steers and Delaney Auger. Assists were earned by Abby Steers, Destani Soba and Ellie Montgomery, who each had two assists.

Nashoba Tech will host McCann Tech on Thursday (4:30 p.m.) for its third appearance in the small vocational school semifinals.

Westford 2, Belmont 0: After a scoreless first half, the Gray Ghosts scored both goals in the final 40 minutes to claim a non-league victory. Sophomore defender Alexa Coward scored the game-winning goal on an assist from Tia McClelland. The insurance goal was scored by Dawa McClelland after an assist from Eleni Stowell.

Goalkeepers Paige Markesich (three saves) and Olivia Cipriano (five saves) combined for the goal.

Chelmsford 1, Cambridge 0: The Lions finished the regular season with a non-league win, improving to 11-3-4 overall. Kay Doherty scored the only goal of the game, her 10th of the season.

Heads of CAC: On Monday, the Notre Dame Academy super sophomore continued to lead the Minor School scoring race with 41 goals and 46 points.

Nashoba Tech’s Delaney Auger (26-10-36) placed third. Also rounding out the top ten were Nashoba’s Sydney Rokita (8-20-28) in seventh place, Nashoba’s Destani Soba (20-5-25) in eighth place and Notre Dame’s Carson Pedreski (8-8-16) in ninth place. place.

Among goaltenders, the duo of Notre Dame’s Kaylyn Ruiz (0.80) and Casey Bourbeau (1.04) had the top two save percentages, with Nashoba’s Kali Christakos (1.25) finishing third.

In the large school, Maria Cafaro of Shawsheen Institute of Technology (15-7-22) was second and Emily Hem of Greater Lowell (9-5-14) was fourth, with Judith Sloman of Shawsheen (10-2-12) and Talia Loney of Greater Lowell (11-1-12) tied for seventh place.

Among goalkeepers, Shawsheen’s Sydney McPherson (1.40) was second in goals. Also shining were Greater Lowell’s Natalia Antonelli (4th, 1.92), Innovation Academy’s Ella Sholla (5th, 2.54) and Lowell Catholic’s Autumn Gallant (3.44).

Autumn couples

The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association will release state tournament pairings for various fall sports this week.

The field hockey and volleyball teams have completed their regular seasons. Boys and soccer teams can play games through Wednesday. The regular football season ends Saturday.

Field hockey: Tuesday, 11:00. Volleyball: Tuesday, 13:00. Boys Soccer: Friday, 1 p.m. Girls Soccer: Friday, 1 p.m. Football: Sunday, November 3rd.

College football

Robarge was honored: For the fourth time this season, Bridgewater State University junior forward Olivia Robarge has been selected as the MASCAC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Year.

The North Middlesex Region graduate scored the game-winning goal in the 75th minute in the Bears’ 2-1 comeback win on the road over defending MASCAC tournament champion Westfield State. The Pepperell native also scored a goal in a 4-1 win over nationally ranked Tufts University.

In 14 games, Robarge had 11 goals and three assists, both career highs. She leads the MASCAC in game-winning goals with four, is second in goals, third in scoring and tied for eighth in assists.

In 50 games over her first three seasons with the Bears, Robarge scored 19 goals and five assists for 43 points. Seven of her 19 goals were game-winners.
