Walgreens has announced a major change to its store hours, but there’s a catch.

Thanksgiving is officially right around the corner, which means it’s time to start the usual holiday preparations. However, there are some things you can’t prepare for, from getting injured (looking at you potato peeler) to unexpectedly missing a staple dinner ingredient. If this happens, you may have the following question: Is Walgreens open for Thanksgiving 2024?

Unfortunately, you’ll likely have to stock up on last-minute holiday gear somewhere else because Most Walgreens stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.. Previously, Walgreens stores remained open on Thanksgiving Day, which falls on November 28 this year. However, starting last year, the company decided to close most of its locations during the holidays to give employees the opportunity to relax with their loved ones.

“This is just one way we show our appreciation for our store associates, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who tirelessly provide incredible service and patient care every single day,” Walgreens Retail Executive Vice President and President and Chief Customer Officer Tracey. D. Brown, according to a press release dated September 16. “We heard incredible feedback from team members about their Thanksgiving holiday last year, so we’re excited to extend this tradition once again so they can take a well-deserved break.”

However there are some exceptions. According to a Walgreens press release, 500 24-hour Walgreens locations, as well as 300 pharmacies at those locations, will remain open on Thanksgiving Day. So whether you need new prescription medications or urgent pharmacist advice, you still have options! You can check if any Walgreens stores near you will be open on Thanksgiving by checking the official Walgreens store locations.

Walgreens locations will be open during regular business hours the day before, November 27th, and the following day on Black Friday to serve all of your healthcare and everyday needs.
