TL;DR

  • A Tensor G5 leak suggests Google could be working on a “next-gen” telephoto lens with 100x zoom capability for the Pixel 11 series.
  • This will be facilitated by machine learning algorithms, allowing for 100x magnification of photos and videos.
  • Samsung introduced 100x zoom in the Galaxy S20 Ultra in 2020, and the Pixel 11 is expected to launch in 2026.

Although the Pixel 9 series has only recently been released, we’re already getting some good news about Google’s upcoming phones. Thanks to a massive leak from Google’s gChips division, we have some details about the features that the Tensor G5 will likely support, and one of the main camera features of the Pixel 11 could be the ability to zoom 100x.

Our report highlights that Google could be working on a “next-generation” telephoto lens that would help bring 100x zoom capabilities to the Pixel 11 series in 2026, as we found references to such a camera upgrade in leaked documents. The hardware will be supported by Tensor G5 machine learning algorithms that will help achieve 100x zoom in photos and videos. However, we expect that machine learning algorithms may differ between the two media formats.

In addition to 100x zoom, the Tensor G5 can finally bring support for 4K HDR video at 60fps and cinematic blur, night vision on the device, and also introduce a new video relighting feature.

Samsung introduced 100x zoom in the Galaxy S20 Ultra in 2020. While the end results left something to be desired, the S20 Ultra showed that 100x zoom can be achieved using periscope zoom lenses. We hope to see better results from Google as it is six years late to the party and Google has shown that it can do wonders with great hardware and software synergy.
