2022 champions Gujarat Titans secured the services of Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar for a paltry sum of INR 3.2 crore during the tournament. IPL 2025 Mega Auction in Jeddah, defying the expectations of the pre-auction war for the talented player.

The auction room fell into an awkward silence when Sundar’s name cropped up at a base price of INR 2 crore. Despite his recent impressive performances in India’s Test victory over Australia in Perth and the home series against New Zealand, only two franchises, GT and Lucknow Super Giants, have shown interest in acquiring the Tamil Nadu-born all-rounder. The bidding was short with LSG quickly dropping out of the competition, allowing GT to get Sundar at a bargain price.

In his previous stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad over three seasons, he took just 10 wickets in 18 games and scored 161 runs in 14 innings. His IPL career totals show 37 wickets in 60 games, an average of 13.50 and a strike rate of 116.30.

However, in T20 internationals, Sundar has picked 47 wickets from 52 matches at an economy rate of 6.87. For Gujarat Titans, this acquisition is more than just a bargain. Sundar joins his Tamil Nadu teammates Sai Sudharsan and Shah Rukh Khan in GT, potentially forming a strong combination.
