Meet our Pet of the Week, Gigi.

Meet our Pet of the Week, Gigi.

– WATD 95.9 News and Talk Radio, South Shore, MA

Sweet Gigi is looking for a patient and kind home, preferably with other animal friends already living there as Gigi LOVES to play with other dogs and even cats, but can be a little shy and timid around people. This all makes sense given Gigi’s backstory: Gigi is a Portuguese Podengo breed, which is part of the greyhound family. They are bred to hunt rabbits, so Gigi spent the first part of her life living outside in a rabbit hutch. Gigi simply wasn’t as successful at hunting rabbits as her owner wanted, so she was given to Furget Me Not.

Gigi is 4 years old and weighs about 34 pounds. Looking at her, you notice her beautiful sand-colored fur and huge ears that can stand on the palm of your hand. She’s a really beautiful girl. Its breed is similar to the Greyhound breed and they are known for being shyer and fearful dogs. Gigi is the epitome of these personality traits, so she really needs someone who can understand her personality and maybe have another canine friend to play with in the house. She is house trained and must be kept on a leash while walking to prevent her from running away.

About Us:

We are an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is a friend and resource to both people and animals! We are funded entirely by donations and 100% of donations go towards animal care such as screening, grooming, food and supplies. We hope to keep pets close to their owners whenever possible and when it’s best for the animals and their families through our pet owner assistance programs.
When rehoming is necessary, we are licensed in Massachusetts as a foster rescue organization and can accept surrendered pets into our foster program for adoption. We do not charge pet adoption fees and are proud to have a free and easy surrender process and “foster adoption” practice.

Our mission: Provide rehoming resources to local animal control officers and pet owners, with a focus on hunting breeds, seniors, and pets with special needs.

Acceptance Policy

All pets undergo medical and behavioral evaluations before they are placed in foster homes and given up for adoption. Dogs and cats are initially placed into the homes of potential adopters on a foster or “trial” basis. We supply everything they need to get started, so there’s no upfront cost. We provide the guidance and support you need to have a successful experience for both you and the pet. Depending on the pet, you may find out whether or not it’s right for you within a few days or weeks. Either way, our goal is to make sure it’s a good match and that you and your pet are happy. We pride ourselves on streamlining the adoption process and strive to be matchmakers.

Adoption Promotion Program

All animals that come into our organization are initially placed in foster homes. We supply everything they need to get started. We provide the guidance and support needed to ensure both you and your pet are happy. We are always in need of foster families, and sometimes those foster families turn into adoptive parents. Or you may be thinking about adoption, in which case we offer Foster Care. The admission period may last a week or more. Our goal is to make sure it is a good fit for you and your pet before you officially adopt. We take pride in our streamlined adoption process and strive to be excellent matchmakers (if we do say so ourselves!) Most of the dogs that come to us come from hunters in Massachusetts who no longer want their hunting dogs. These dogs have never been indoors before and require extra care. Foster homes are an integral part of placing all dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs into foster homes.

Visit our Pet of the Week page to see all of our past adoption events. You may just find the perfect friend to add to your family!
