Eddie Vedder just gave Bruce Springsteen a special post-election tribute song from the other side of the world.

“These have been difficult times for our country at home,” Vedder said from the stage during Pearl Jam’s Saturday, Nov. 23, concert at Angie Stadium in Sydney, Australia, according to a video on social media. “We’ll be fine. It’s just going to take some time, a little reset, but we’ll lean on the music when words fail.”

Vedder then performed a solo version of “No Surrender,” a Springsteen classic from the 1984 album Born in the USA. Both Springsteen and Vedder have publicly supported Kamala Harris’ candidacy for US President.

She lost to former President Donald Trump on November 5th.

“Everything about this guy is magical,” Vedder said of Springsteen, noting that the E Street Band’s tour ended in Vancouver, where Pearl Jam’s current tour began. “Bruce Springsteen is a magician, and he makes magic, and he works hard to make magic, and sometimes it’s easy for him to make magic. He also has songs of power, and…those of us who listen to music and need it have songs we can rely on.”

Vedder and Springsteen performed “No Surrender” together in October 2004 during the “Vote for Change” tour at the former Continental Airlines site in East Rutherford. According to him, Vedder corresponded with the Boss on the Saturday before the final concert of Pearl Jam’s tour.

Springsteen and the E Street Band perform Friday, November 22 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, wrapping up their Canadian tour. The shows will resume in May with dates in the UK and Europe.
