Experts Urge Media Practitioners to Use AI to Grow Industry – Nigeria – The Guardian Nigeria News – Nigeria and World News

Experts have called on media professionals to adopt and integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into their daily activities to remain competitive and improve industry results.

They emphasized that artificial intelligence can improve the media landscape by increasing audience engagement, optimizing audio content production, and increasing operational efficiency through intelligent editing tools and advanced data analytics.

The call came during the AI ​​Radio Summit in Nigeria and the launch of ‘NIMI’, Women Radio 91.7 FM’s innovative AI radio presenter and intelligent virtual assistant.

Tagged “Smart Radio: Using Artificial Intelligence for Next Generation Broadcasting,” the summit, which took place in Lagos, showcased how artificial intelligence is changing the future of broadcasting by automating routine tasks, delivering faster content and creating more personalized experiences.

According to the CEO of Women’s Radio 91.7 Town, Okewale Sonaya, in her speech, AI confirms that it plays a fundamental role not only in the future but also in the present.

She expressed pride in her team’s efforts to push the boundaries of what radio can do with the creation of Nigeria’s first virtual radio assistant, ‘Nimi’, and emphasized the importance of Nimi as a trusted confidante and companion in radio, offering a safe space for support and knowledge.

CJID Head of Innovation Monsoor Hussain demonstrated how Dubawa’s audio platform would monitor radio broadcasts by recording, transcribing and extracting potentially false or misleading statements, which would then be presented to Dubawa’s fact-checkers for in-depth investigation; ensuring accountability and protecting journalistic integrity in the Nigerian broadcasting sector.

The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, commended Women’s Radio for setting a priority that has served as a model of what Nigeria can achieve when technology meets creativity.

Rise Network founder Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji has called on Nigerians to build local AI solutions, emphasizing ethical innovation and regulation to govern the rapid adoption of AI.

She highlighted the role of AI in democratizing media and building trust. Program Director of the Nigeria Media Innovation Programme, Adedeji Adekunle, stressed the need to use this technology while ensuring intellectual property protection.

Stellamaris Okebu, Business Program Manager for Microsoft Nigeria and Ghana, spoke about the effectiveness of AI in optimizing tasks that she identified as important for the future.

During a panel discussion on “Improving AI in Journalism and Broadcasting: Ethics and Professionalism,” Channels TV’s Kayode Okikiolu questioned the National Broadcasting Commission’s (NBC) stance on AI, citing public skepticism.

Okikiolu emphasized the need for NBC to be involved in discussions about AI and expressed concerns about balancing investment in AI with prioritizing staff well-being.

Managing Director of Beginners Artificial Intelligence Academy Sam Onigbanjo highlighted the rapid evolution of Artificial Intelligence, noting the benefits of moving from free to paid versions of Artificial Intelligence systems when creating advanced articles and advertisements. He emphasized the need to combine creativity with technology to maximize the potential of AI.
