It comes after Steve recently revealed he was forced to flee Kerry Packer’s Sydney mansion after the billionaire TV presenter tried to lure him to Channel Nine.

Wizard was at the peak of his powers, juggling writing, producing and co-starring on the popular sketch comedy show Fast Forward, as well as hosting his own top-rated talk show, Tonight Live with Steve Wizard, when he received a call from the late media owner. .

“In mid-1990, Kerry Packer called me and said come to Sydney,” Wizard told the Herald Sun’s Fiona Byrne.

After flying to the port city, Wizard was picked up by a chauffeur at the airport and driven to Packer’s sprawling palace in Bellevue Hill in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

“I thought it was going to be a business meeting and when I walked in I saw Kerry in shorts and said, ‘Do you want to go watch TV?’

“We went into his office, he put his feet on the coffee table, told the butler to bring sandwiches, and we sat there, drinking orange juice, watching TV shows and talking about them.”

Wizard said it took Packer about three hours before he finally got down to business and told the comedian why he was there.

“He wanted me to go to Channel Nine,” he told the Herald Sun.

“It was about five o’clock in the evening and I thought, ‘How am I going to get out of here? I don’t know where I am in Bellevue Hill, I don’t even know where the front door is.”

“I was literally there for eight hours before I escaped.

“I found him incredibly friendly and very persuasive. He was incredibly charming and strong.”

Despite the persuasion, the Wizard decided to stay with Seven before going off-air completely just three years later, explaining that he wanted to spend more time with his family.

“You have one chance with this stuff,” he told the Herald Sun.

“I was ready to do the show three nights a week, but the network wanted four, so we just stopped.”
