Key findings from ZDNET

  • Yufi X8 Pro is a two-in-one robot vacuum and mop in the mid-range market that retails for $650 but is available for $350 until Black Friday.
  • It is the industry’s first vacuum cleaner to feature dual TurboCyclone suction units to effectively clean a variety of surfaces.
  • The Eufy Pro-Detangle feature was less effective in my home with dogs and cats.

Cleaning up pet hair is something I struggle with at home. I have it on my floors, on my couches, on my clothes, and even on my dining room table. The only way I could even remotely deal with this was to run the robot vacuum every day – who has time to run a handheld vacuum every day? If yes, then you will earn my respect. Really.

When Yufi X8 Pro appeared on my doorstep and promised to become an expert in pet hair cleaning, I immediately got to work. Euphie claims that this robot vacuum comes with an active detangling roller brush that prevents pet hair from becoming clogged. The company also claims that it is the first vacuum cleaner to feature dual TurboCyclone suction motors (two 4,000 Pa fans). To test these claims, I ran the vacuum cleaner throughout my entire house for a month. Let’s talk about how it was.

The Eufy X8 Pro has several distinctive features, including the TurboCyclone dual suction system, an industry first. The X8 Pro is equipped with two 4000Pa vacuum motors that suck up every bit of dirt and debris strewn around your home.

With four different suction levels—quiet, standard, turbo, and maximum—I find that my carpets and rugs usually have beautiful lines and are hair-free after cleaning. When the robot detects a softer surface, BoostIQ kicks in, increasing suction power and removing all dirt and debris from the carpet.

When cleaning the rest of my house, parts of which are tiled, I found that the X8 Pro can get a little carried away with the side brush. Sometimes, instead of the brush throwing dirt and debris into the roller, it would throw the pieces somewhere else, sometimes where the vacuum cleaner had already picked up.

This seemed to happen more often with litter, such as stray cat litter and bits of dirt, rather than with pet hair or dust bunnies. This isn’t a big deal if you use the X8 Pro daily, but you may be disappointed by its cleaning capabilities if you’re hoping it will clean everything in one run.

The Eufy X8 Pro is a two-in-one machine, but the mopping function is best described as a wet pad to remove dust from the floor rather than a deep clean. I’ve never been a fan of this mechanical wet mop head because it often collects dirty water and uses it to spread across the floor.

If you don’t have kids or pets running around the house, a wet pad might be nice, but in my house, with all of those things, a real mopping feature is a must. Here is a list of great two-in-one machines that will work great for your floors.

Regardless, the Eufy X8 Pro is a smart robot vacuum that uses iPath laser navigation to clean in neat, consistent rows. He quickly and efficiently mapped out the layout of my home and even tried to divide the space into areas that were considered different rooms.

Both of these features worked well and made the app very easy to understand. Unfortunately, the X8 Pro lacks an object avoidance feature. I got in trouble if I didn’t collect cords, toys, and stuffed animals before Euphie did his thing.

For some people (myself included) this isn’t a problem on certain days. Sometimes I live together and my floors look clean and pristine, but usually they don’t. I lost the lamp cord and a children’s toy from the X8 Pro.

Also, this robot vacuum cleaner has a great self-cleaning feature that I didn’t even know it had.

Finally, Euphie says the X8 Pro’s rollers won’t tangle, which is a bold claim considering how difficult pet hair can be. Between my long hair and the fur of my German Shepherd, German Shorthaired Pointer, and cat, the robot vacuum’s rollers often get clogged after they go around my house. Unfortunately, the Eufy X8 Pro had a similar ending; After each cleaning I had to manually clean the rollers.

The Pro-Detangle brush did not work well with the hair in my home with a child, two dogs and a cat.

ZDNET Buying Tips

Who should buy this robot vacuum cleaner? After several weeks of testing, I have concluded that for soft surfaces such as carpets and rugs, Yufi X8 Pro is an amazing cleaner, especially for the mid-price range, and its current price of $350 makes it a bargain. It also does a great job cleaning tile floors, despite the occasional glitch due to the side brush. However, don’t buy into the Pro-Detangle Comb’s marketing, especially if you have a few furry friends at home.
