UK reform MP jailed for ‘repeatedly kicking his ex-girlfriend’

He did not publicly disclose his conviction before he was elected as an MP.

Reform MP James McMurdoch

It has emerged that UK Reform MP James McMurdoch was jailed 18 years ago for repeatedly kicking his then-girlfriend.

The Times newspaper made shocking revelations.

McMurdoch, who was previously an investment banker, joined Reform this year and agreed to be the party’s candidate in South Basildon and East Thurrock, a seat he eventually won after defeating Tory candidate Stephen Metcalfe by just 98 votes .

He did not publicly disclose his conviction before he was elected as an MP.

When his previous conviction was first reported, McMurdoch tried to play it down, saying he had “pushed” his ex-girlfriend and that the attack was a “teenage indiscretion”.

However, further investigation by The Times, which included seeking additional information from the courts, found that “the reason for his imprisonment was that ‘the victim was kicked approximately four times.’

The newspaper reported: “His previous conviction came to light when the victim’s mother accused him of ‘leaving marks on her body’ and said it ‘took two security guards to pull him away from her.’

“Then the deputy denied the mother’s version. In a statement, he said that “while I absolutely deny the horrifying details of this story, there is one truth to it that I cannot and will not deny or hide.”
