What to do if the gravies are too salty?

  • If the curry or lentils are too salty, try adding a little hot water to balance the flavor. Always use warm or hot water to maintain consistency and flavor.
  • Heat the dish in a frying pan. While it’s heating, roll the plain dough into small balls and dip them into the gravy. These dough balls will absorb the excess salt. Remove them after a few minutes and the salt levels should balance out.
  • Fry some gram flour (besan) until golden brown and fragrant. Add roasted chickpea flour to the dish and mix well. This trick will not only balance out the salt, but also improve the texture and flavor of the sauce. This method works for both gravies and dry foods.

What to do if dry vegetables are too salty?

  • Balance the saltiness by adding a tangy ingredient such as lemon juice. Alternatively, finely chopped tomatoes or tomato puree can work wonders. You can also add a small amount of curd (yogurt) for a similar effect.
  • As with gravies, roasted chickpea flour can be used to fix salt in dry dishes. Stir thoroughly to absorb and neutralize the salt.
