Michkov scores in overtime as Flyers beat Blackhawks 3-2

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Matvey Michkov scored a power-play goal in overtime as the Flyers overcame a two-goal third-period deficit to beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 on Saturday.

Michkov scored from a set piece, taking a pass from Travis Konecny through the back door and slamming it in at exactly 1:06 of overtime.

Trailing 2-0 in the third period, Sean Couturier and Noah Cates scored 2:38 apart to tie the game.

Couturier scored for the first time in 14 games, while Cates scored for the first time this season.

Alexey Kolosov made 19 saves and earned his first NHL career win.

Lucas Reichel and Patrick Maroon scored for the Blackhawks, who lost for the fourth time in five games.

Petr Mrazek made 34 saves for Chicago.

Takeaway

Blackhawks: It’s not often that the fourth line gets production, but Chicago’s lineup of Reichel, Craig Smith and Maroon was noticeable every time they took the ice. They accounted for both of Chicago’s goals and combined for eight of the team’s 21 shots on goal.

Flyers: The Flyers have struggled to score this season, but the only thing they have had is a productive team when they fall behind late in games.

Key Point

Alex Vlasic converted the critical penalty, giving the Flyers the lead in overtime. The penalty resulted from a turnover in the Flyers’ goal by Chicago star Connor Bedard.

Key Statistics

Scott Laughton, who was on the bench for the Flyers’ last game against Carolina, was all over the stat sheet but didn’t actually score. He led the Flyers in shots on goal with eight and led the team in shots on goal with four.

Next

The Blackhawks don’t play until Wednesday and then return home to host Dallas.

Philadelphia completes a five-game homestand against Vegas on Monday.
