4-star DT Joseph Mbatchu traded from Florida Gators to Texas Longhorns

AUSTIN – Just before their matchup with the Kentucky Wildcats, the Texas Longhorns pulled off a big win.

According to On3 recruiting insider Chad Simmons, the Longhorns have landed 4-star Grayson (Loganville, Ga.) interior defensive lineman Joseph Mbatchu.

Mbatchu was committed to the Florida Gators before backing out of his commitment less than an hour before tipoff against the Longhorns.

“Florida was right there, but when it comes to Texas, it’s the people that make it special,” Mbatchu told Simmons. “I have complete faith in coach Sark (Steve Sarkisian), coach Kenny Baker and all these people. I believe they have my best interests at heart.”

A consensus four-star recruit, Mbachu is ranked as the No. 257 player in the nation, No. 31 defensive tackle and No. 36 in Georgia in On3’s industry rankings.

Mbatchu has been a top target for the Horns for some time now, with defensive line coach Kenny Baker focusing on defensive tackle the last couple of months.

Now that Mbatchu has joined the team, he becomes the third interior defensive lineman to commit to the Horns in the 2025 cycle, joining Myron Charles and Josiah Sharma, who also opted out of their commitments to the Horns.
