Rahul gave a batting masterclass on the second day of the first Test of the IND vs AUS Border-Gavaskar Test series in Perth. The duo demolished Australia’s formidable fast bowling attack to rewrite the record books.

Rising star Yashasvi Jaiswal has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the batter with the most sixes in a single calendar year in Test cricket. During his unbeaten 84 from 193 balls, including 7 fours and 2 sixes, Jaiswal surpassed former Kiwi pacer Brendon McCullum’s record of 33 sixes in 2014.

With 34 sixes in 2024, Jaiswal now tops an elite list that includes Ben Stokes (26 sixes in 2022), Adam Gilchrist (22 sixes in 2005) and Virender Sehwag (22 sixes in 2008).

Jaiswal’s second six innings ensured his place in history, helping India build a 218-run lead at stumps on day two. K.L. Rahul contributed with an unbeaten 62 as the duo formed an unbroken opening partnership of 172 runs.

India stage an inspiring comeback in the Perth Test

India won the toss and asked hosts Australia to play first in the IND vs AUS 1st Test in Perth. After being bowled out for just 150 on the first day of play, stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah and other Indian bowlers led a spirited fightback, bowling out Australia for just 104 on the second day and giving India a decisive 46-run lead.

Then, in the second innings, openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and K.L. Rahul put together an unbroken 172-run stand for the first wicket, consolidating India’s control of the match. Jaiswal stunned with an unbeaten 90 while Rahul played a consistent knock of 62 not out.

On the second day, India, with a setback, increased their lead to 218 runs.
